The Last Rocket
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 reactions
(Spoiler alert)
General Overview
There we have it folks, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is finally out and it wrapped everything up with a pretty bow. I may be a little bias because the first film is my all time favorite MCU movie but I will be fair with my assessment of this film. This film had so much emotion in it from happiness, sadness, loss, grief, acceptance, and the fear of the unknown just to name a few. This film was a ton of fun and I enjoyed it. Was it the perfect, far from it, but the pros most certainly outweigh the cons when it comes to this movie. I thought it was a fitting end to the Guardians as we know it and I’m curious to see what the future holds.
The Hits
The Guardians of the Galaxy movies have some of the best music in the MCU. They just know what song to pick for the right moment and the music for the 3rd film was no different. This was a very emotional movie and they set the tone right away with the first song choice. The first 2 movies had that happy go lucky feel to it with the song choices but we started this movie out with a more somber song highlighting the end of things. At the end of the day the core of this movie was Rocket as the film’s plot revolved around him. His flashback scenes were definitely the best parts about the movie. The scene where he is on the brink of the afterlife was quite moving. To lighten the mood up this movie brought it with the action scenes. The hallway fight with the full Guardians lineup was superb. The escape scene was reminiscent of the prison escape in the first film, they always do great with escape sequences. All that lead up to the big climatic showdown with the villain of the movie The High Evolutionary, who I thought was a great villain. His motive was simple, a man on a quest to create the perfect world and is willing to tear everything down and start over if he deems it necessary. So it made it even more satisfying when he got his comeuppance
The Misses
Like all good albums you will have your hits and you will have your misses. For me Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had a couple things that made me scratch my head but the biggest miss of all in my opinion was Adam Warlock. A character a lot of people were looking forward to after the post credit scene of the 2nd movie. A character that was a huge part in the Infinity War and Guardians comics. We were expecting a great adversary that was tasked to hunt down and kill the Guardians. But we got essentially a dumb blonde character. Is there still room to grow, yes, but the character we got in this movie wasn’t worth the 6 year wait.
Post Credit scene
At the end of the movie the original lineup of the Guardians disbanded, a lot of them off for self discovery journeys and Rocket was appointed as the new leader. The first post credit scene we saw the new Guardians lineup with Rocket, Groot, Adam Warlock, Cosmo, and others. The 2nd post credit scene we see Star-Lord back on Earth with his grandfather.
What is Next?
We saw the last of the original Guardians line up for now, I think we will see them reunite later on in Avengers Secret Wars, but it's tough to pinpoint when or if we will see the new Guardians in action in a Disney Plus show or special. I think that would be the better route. But it is confirmed that Star-Lord will return. The first thing that came to my mind is a Disney Plus show. I can see a show of him adapting to Earth life then being called back into action. So this seems to be the end of the OG Guardians of the Galaxy. Each character is off doing their own thing, James Gunn is off to run the DC Universe movies, and we will see new Guardians stories take place in the future possibly. But overall the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is done. Three great films that was able to wrap things up and end things on a high note.
